June is a month of pride, music, and freedom!

From invigorating walks to freedom yoga workshop, nutrition events, and trail cleanups, there’s an activity for everyone to participate in.

June is a vibrant month of celebration and reflection, as it marks Juneteenth, Black Music Month, and Pride. Juneteenth, celebrated on June 19th, commemorates when Union troops freed enslaved Black people in Galveston Bay and across Texas almost two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Black Music Month pays homage to the profound impact of African American artists on the music industry, celebrating genres from jazz and blues to hip-hop and R&B, which have shaped cultural landscapes worldwide. Simultaneously, Pride Month honors the LGBTQ+ community's history, achievements, and the continuing fight for rights and acceptance, inspired by the Stonewall Riots of June 1969. Together, these observances foster a rich tapestry of diversity, resilience, and cultural pride, encouraging a deeper understanding and appreciation of the myriad contributions to society. From invigorating walks to freedom yoga workshop, nutrition events, and trail cleanups, there’s an activity for everyone to participate in. Dive in and discover how you can make this month one of growth, connection, and wellbeing.

Throwback!

We did a lot of walkin’ in May, here’s a recap of where we went:

It was a pleasure spending time at the Rachel Carson Conservancy on May 11 with @dcblackqueerwomen!

Grateful to everyone who joined us at Burke Lake Park! We had an amazing time and created unforgettable memories. Special thanks to our awesome collaborators, @chesapeakeconservancy!and @devynsimonedreams of @surrender.and.flow for a much needed stretch.🌳✨

Huge shoutout to @arcteryxwashingtondc and @djgeenamarie for partnering with us during their Strava: Run Free Challenge for our first ever Arc Walk- a series of outdoor fusion experiences that intersect movement, music, and art. The group enjoyed a 2-mile walk around the National Mall and lopped back to the Downtown DC store for a Body Heat mixer featuring sounds by @djgeenamarie. Special thanks to @topochicousa and @dolcezzagelato for the refreshments, and to @katelyn.clix for the flics.
